Wildlife at the Market

It's not always busy at the market at this time of year, although it's getting there.  There can be long periods to fill between customers, often achieved by chatting with friends and other stallholders and passers by.  Or even your fellow stallholder!

This Saturday just past I had my camera with me, as Jane had asked a customer to let us take a picture of her in a skirt she had bought the previous week.

Later, we ordered coffees and sat under a shade tree to enjoy them.  Of course, customers arrive and we go to assist them.  Returning to my chair, I notice something hanging down from the tree, between the two chairs.

"Funny", I thought, "That wasn't there before".  On closer inspection, it appeared to be some sort of caterpillar hanging on the end of a piece of webbing.

"Must be a pretty big spider", I mused, looking up into the tree but not seeing anything.  Just then, the caterpillar began squirming and spinning quite vigorously on the end of its thread.

Still not seeing a spider, I finally realised that the caterpillar was dragging itself back up into the tree!  On and on it spun and squirmed, probably for a couple of metres, until finally settling on a leaf.  Then, being almost identical in colour to the tree's bark, it promptly disappeared.

I kept looking, though, and just before we began to pack up for the day I spotted something else.  Hope it's not still there next week!
